This week’s update finds state authorization bills for barbering schools taking center stage in the West. However, with 41 state legislatures actively meeting this week, there is plenty of other activity of interest to cosmetology and barbering schools to report. Another competition season is getting underway as the Spring 2016 Vidal Sassoon Professional Beauty Scholarship Competition opens, http://www.modernsalon.com/news/industry-news/vidal-sassoon-professional-beauty-education-scholarship-program-accepting. Applications will be accepted through April 4, 2016. How will your school’s students and alumni use a career in beauty to change lives?  The Vidal Sassoon Professional Beauty Scholarship Competition is the only BCL program to offer scholarships for aspiring and licensed hairstylists so be sure to let your educators and alumni know about the Advanced scholarship opportunities.

As part of OPI’s ongoing scholarship program, 9 students annually who are attending AACS member schools will each be awarded a $500.00 scholarship from OPI. Students must be enrolled, or in the process of enrolling, in a cosmetology related program at an AACS member school to qualify. Winners will be selected based on an essay and one industry recommendation.
