AACS "Call to Action" Repeal GE Extended — Please Contact Your Elected Officials Now
Heading into the Spring Retreat the GRC challenged all AACS member schools to contact your members of Congress in an effort to significantly increase the number of House and Senate co-sponsors of H.R. 970/S. 559 (The Strengthening Academic Freedom Through Regulatory Relief Act) legislation which would, among several other provisions REPEAL the GE regulations scheduled to take effect on July 1, 2015. To date, 152 AACS members have generated more than 700 messages to 126 Members of Congress seeking their support for the bill and as a result of our efforts , he number of co-sponsors for both bills is on the rise! Senate HELP Committee Holds Hearing — "The Role of Consumer Information in College Choice"
Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pension Committee Chairman, Lamar Alexander, hosted a hearing on May 6, 2015 that focused upon one of the three HEA Reauthorization Proposals and Concepts white papers — Data Transparency and Consumer Information — and sought public comment by the end of April.  The GRC provided comprehensive comments on this topic, as well as two other important white papers, which are available for you review at www.AACSAction.org.  Read a summary of the hearing and key comments specifically related to the for-profit community.

 

Legislative Activity Update
As we head closer to summer, we are seeing the first signs that state legislative activity is starting to wane. This week, 29 state legislatures are actively meeting – a decrease in two from last week and eight from the week of April 13.  AACS, however, continues to vigilantly monitor state legislative and regulatory activity of interest to our members.
