Registration for the AACS Annual Convention & Expo will open this summer. The event will be held in Phoenix, November 14-17, and this year is going to be unforgettable. The largest cosmetology educator’s convention in the nation is July 25 – 28, where attendees can attend educational sessions for methodology, motivation, and technical skills. This year’s event will also feature a mentor/expert lounge where you can pick the brain of industry pros and get answers to your questions. And this year, we’ll kick-off the weekend with a fabulous outdoor party! Mingle with educators from across the nation, while winning some great prizes from Farouk. Come dressed in white and indulge in some appetizers while enjoying the outdoor, ocean breeze. This event will be Friday (July 19), 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm. All attendees are invited! Since March 13, when AACS and the GRC provided initial summary of the Department's Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) seeking to once again define Gainful Employment, the GRC has been reviewing, analyzing and drafting the association's response. Tuesday, May 27 is the submission deadline and the GRC is providing a draft for your review, and calling upon you to begin the development of your own individual (institutional) response. We ask that your institution's comments follow the general framework and message of the association's.

Comments may be submitted to the Department through the Federal eRulemaking Portal or postal mail, commercial delivery or hand delivery. All comments must include the Docket ID of ED-2014-OPE-0039 listed on the top of your cover page. The Federal eRulemaking Portal is the recommended method of submissions. The Portal may be accessed at www.regulations.gov. Once on the Portal, there are clear and simple instructions on how to submit your response to the NPRM by Tuesday, May 27, 2014. (Postal mail address on the draft letter.)

The 2014 Professional Beauty Association (PBA) Economic Snapshot provides some encouraging information about projected job growth in the beauty and wellness industry. Between 2012 and 2022, the report projects a 40% increase in demand for skincare specialists, a 16% increase in manicurists and 13% increase in demand for hairstylists. Access the report here.
