The stats don’t lie—only 20% of American jobs require a 4-year degree or higher. Overwhelmingly, the majority of jobs require technical skills—like your school offers! Although it’s not beauty industry specific and promotes community college training this video and accompanying article have some great insights that might give your admissions team a different edge. It would also be great to share these statistics with local high school counselors when booking a speaking gig or career fair slot. Thank you to Steve Reiss from Vance Publishing for sharing this with AACS.

The CEA Committee is looking for speakers for the CEA Annual Convention (July 25 – 28, Ft. Lauderdale, FL). They are looking for sessions ranging from motivational to technical to methodology. The audience is purely beauty and wellness school educators—so sessions should be geared toward teachers and should not contain product selling. Click here for the application. Submissions will be accepted until March 1.

State Relations Committee

Regina Webb ( Kentucky)
Regina Webb Academy, President

How long have you been in the beauty school business?
4 years

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I have been a licensed cosmetologist for more than 40 years. I also served on my State Board of Cosmetology for five years prior to opening my school

Why is it important for you to be involved with AACS and the State Relations Committee?
When we first opened our school, we had so many questions and the AACS members were and still are all so willing and eager to share their experiences. The conventions always offer great classes and presentations and that network of people is priceless. State Relations is so important because just because it is not happening in our state at the present time, does not mean it does not affect our industry as a whole. It is only when we unite to assist each other that we are able to preserve our integrity as educational institutions.

Every successful retailer knows that men and women buy differently. The same differences that affect purchasing decisions in the car showroom, department store and supermarket beer aisle also apply in the salon. Given that half of the world’s population is male and that the market for male grooming products continues to grow, it makes sense for beauty and wellness professionals to understand the buying behavior of men.
