A bipartisan Nevada bill to reduce the course of instruction for hair designers and estheticians was introduced on Monday. SB 208, sponsored by Senate President Pro Tempore Mo Denis (D-Nev.) and Assemblywoman Jill Tolles (R-Nev.), would reduce the training hours required for licensure as a hair designer from 1,200 to 1,000 hours at a school, and reduce esthetics from a minimum of 900 hours of training to a minimum of 600 hours at a school. Apprenticeship training hours would be similarly reduced to 2,000 hours for hair design and 1,200 hours for esthetics. The bill also removes electrolysis from the scope of practice for cosmetology and adds both “eyelash extensions” and “eyelash perming” to the practice of esthetics. Member Events
