Esthetics educators, take note. The Beauty Changes Lives Amazing Lash Scholarship is accepting applications beginning June 11 through August 13. Illinois’ Senate voted 52 to 0 last Thursday to send HB 4883 to Governor Bruce Rauner (R). The measure, which did not receive a single “nay” vote in either chamber, would allow prospective barbers and cosmetologists to test after completing 1,200 hours of instruction. Applicants for licensure as an esthetician may take the licensure examination after completing 600 hours of instruction, and applicants for licensure as a nail technician may take the licensure examination after completing 280 hours of instruction. Due to decreased state legislative activity, this summary of key state legislative and regulatory developments of interest to AACS members will be published the remainder of the year on the first and third weeks of the month. Interim updates will be posted, as necessary, on the AACS listserves and/or emailed to AACS members in the affected state.
