Two weeks ago, over 100 AACS school owners, financial aid directors, admissions representatives, affinity partners, third-party vendors and employers fanned out all over Capitol Hill – conducting an estimated 150-250 meetings! Here is what some people are saying about their experience: “Being part of the AACS Capitol Hill Day changed me. It ignited a passion to get our message to as wide an audience as possible. Being teamed up with the women from Farouk and Carol Woodard gave a sense of comradery and support that I have never experienced in AACS before. We were able to share our concerns in a way that felt empowering and like we could really make a difference in Washington. Thank you for making that possible!” - Sarah Arno “We're grateful for the opportunity that AACS gave us to connect with our congressional representatives. It gave us the chance to voice our issues to legislators who otherwise may not have heard from people in our industry. AACS gave us all the training we needed beforehand, and because of Hill Day we were able to establish relationships that will allow us to have an ongoing impact on the laws and regulations that affect our school.” – Paul Naoum Click here to read a full recap of the 2018 Hill Day and view photos from attendees!

In Alaska, the House of Representatives voted 37 to 1 Monday to pass a bill creating two new license types: a non-chemical barber’s license (the hours would be established by regulation); and a 35-hour braiding license. Additionally, SB 4 would add a “permanent cosmetic coloring” definition and license to permit microblading and microneedling without a tattooing license. The bill returns to the Senate to address House amendments. Illinois’ Senate voted unanimously Monday to pass an early testing bill. As previously reported, SB 2877 would allow prospective barbers, cosmetologists and instructors to test after completing 1,200 hours of instruction. Applicants for licensure as a nail technician or teacher of nail technology may take the licensure examination after completing 280 hours of instruction.
