So you’re going to Capitol Hill – now what?

AACS thanks you in advance for your participation in the 2018 School Leaders Summit & Capitol Hill Day. Capping off the School Leaders Summit is Capitol Hill Day on Thursday, April 12, 2018. “Hill Day” is a significant component of AACS’ ongoing advocacy efforts and political outreach at the federal level, and your active involvement in Capitol Hill Day is crucial in the effort to make our collective voice heard.

Join AACS' Policy Advisors and Government Relations consultants when they host two webinars to explain how to contact your Members of Congress, share tips on scheduling meetings on The Hill, and explain what you can expect when you arrive in Washington, D.C.

This is your chance to ask any questions you might have, address any challenges you are facing in scheduling your meetings, or calm any nerves you're experiencing at the thought of meeting with your congressional delegation. Register for one or both webinars by selecting the dates below:

Tuesday, March 20 - 1:00 pm EST
Thursday, March 29 - 1:00 pm EST

Great news - our host hotel, the Omni Shoreham in Washington, D.C., has graciously lowered our event group rate to $209. This applies to all existing and future reservations. To match this incredible offer, AACS has extended Early Bird pricing to all AACS members up to the event!

Reserve your seat at the table at the 2018 School Leaders Summit and participate in this year's Capitol Hill Day - both for just $550.

Does your AACS school’s alumni include BeautyChangesLives scholarship winners? If so, we’d love to promote these beauty scholars’ success to industry media. Throughout the year, the BeautyChangesLives Foundation shares the success of BeautyChangesLives scholarship winners with beauty industry trade publications (look for a few interviewed in the April issues of NailPro and American Salon.) We aim to show how the scholarships – and careers in beauty – change lives. If you’d like us to consider your school’s BeautyChangesLives alums for industry news pitches, please contact lauren@beautychangeslives.org.

March is shaping up to be a pivotal month for state legislative activity. For the first time since January, less than 40 states – 37 to be exact – are in legislative session this week. We have also seen the first significant wave of 2018 legislative adjournments as between March 8 and 13 the following states have adjourned their regular legislative sessions sine die – Arkansas, Florida, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia and Wyoming. Louisiana however kicked off its legislative session on Monday – becoming the final state to do so in 2018.

The sine die adjournment of Florida’s legislature last Friday killed measures – HB 1041, HB 15 and SB 1114 – that would have reduced the number of hours of training for barbers and restricted barbers from 1,200 to 600 for barbers and from 1,200 to 325 for restricted barbers. As previously reported, they also contained language reducing the amount of training hours required for specialty registrations from: 240 hours to 150 hours for nail specialists; 260 hours to 165 hours for facial specialists; and 500 hours to 300 hours for full specialists.
