At the 2018 School Leaders Summit, we will shed light on the areas the Beauty and Wellness Education Industry needs to improve upon. By sharing stories of success and challenge, we can help enlighten our peers to see potential they may not have seen before. This includes school owners and managers, industry partners, educators, students, licensed professionals and legislators.

A new year means new scholarship opportunities! The Sydell & Arnold Miller Family Foundation scholarship is open and accepting applications through March 5. The competition includes scholarships for beauty school students, licensed cosmetologists and esthetic/makeup students! Winners will be announced April 29, during the Beauty Changes Lives Experience at America’s Beauty Show by Cosmetologists Chicago.

A bill to reduce the course of instruction for cosmetology from 2,100 hours to 1,500 hours was introduced last week in South Dakota by the House Health and Human Services Committee at the request of the Department of Labor and Regulation. The state’s Cosmetology Commission voted in July 2017 to make such a recommendation to the legislature. HB 1026 also proposes to move South Dakota from two-tier Instructor licensing to a one-tier system.
In Kentucky, legislation to reduce the course of instruction required for licensure as an esthetician from 1,000 to 700 hours was introduced last week and referred to the House Licensing, Occupations, & Administrative Regulations Committee.
