Thank you to all who participated in this year’s GRC fundraising efforts at the 2017 AACS Annual Convention! Because of your continued support, we were able to raise an incredible $39,456 to be used towards general GRC efforts and to fund our successful lawsuit against the Department of Education.

Congratulations to the winners of the grand prizes of the auction:

New York City Weekend – Janet McCann, American Institute of Beauty
Las Vegas Weekend – Kim McIntosh, Crave Beauty Academy

Remember – we still need your support! Our recent lawsuit, AACS v. US Department of Education, cost the Association nearly $450,000. If your school was granted some relief from this victory, please consider donating to our legal efforts today! You can make donations to the Government Relations Committee through their page - http://grc.beautyschools.org/.
At the 2017 AACS Annual Convention & Expo, we joined together to raise money for the family of Stacee Etcheber – a hairstylist who was lost during the attack at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas on October 1, 2017. Thanks to your generous donations, we were able to raise $1,175 during our event. As an Association, AACS matched that contribution, for a total donation of $2,350.

Thank you to those who donated. If you’d still like to donate to the Etcheber family, you can do so on their official GoFundMe page.
The intimidators. The slackers. The credit-takers. The "I actually have another favor to ask"-ers.
We've all encountered a difficult colleague in some form or another. In fact, experts estimate that between 6o and 80 percent of reported difficulties at work are caused primarily by strained relationships with coworkers.

Research shows that getting along with the people you work with is vitally important -- for your company's overall productivity, and your own personal sense of happiness and fulfillment. But working closely in potentially stressful situations doesn't always bring out the best in people, so it's important to know how to address and de-escalate conflicts before they impact your quality of life

Congress Moves Ahead with FY18 Budget, Paving Way for Appropriations to Follow in Early to Mid-December

Last Thursday, October 26, 2017, the U.S. House of Representatives narrowly approved (216-212) a $4 trillion Senate fiscal year 2018 (FY18) budget bill potentially clearing the way for completion of the FY18 Appropriations process and opening the door for a major rewrite of the federal tax code.  While most of the press over the weekend focused upon the ability of the legislation to enable Republicans to begin work on a $1.5 trillion tax cut, a top item on the GOP agenda, completion of the legislation also provides a roadmap for federal spending and $5 trillion in spending cuts over the next decade, including potentially critical cuts to a multitude of non-defense, discretionary programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and Education.
