The Vidal Sassoon Professional Beauty Education Spring 2017 "Basic" Scholarship Competition opens Monday, January 9, 2017, and will accept applications through March 16. Open to students enrolled in an AACS member school, the Basic Scholarship awards 50% tuition (up to $10,000) toward cosmetology education. The "Advanced Competition" opens January 16 and will accept applications through March 13. Winners will receive a five-day learning experience at a Sassoon North American Academy (up to $4,850 including travel). Both the "Basic" and "Advanced" Vidal Sassoon Professional Beauty Education Scholarship Competitions require video submissions. More information is available here.

In 2017, all 50 states will be meeting in legislative session. The AACS State Relations Committee and State Relations consultant Brian Newman are prepared to keep you apprised of bills of interest to cosmetology and barbering schools. This article shares the details of the 16 states convening in session this first week in January.

For almost 20 years, the AACS' ACE Grant program helped to make cosmetology education more affordable for students across the United States. In 2016, we delivered more than 7,500 leads to participating schools, but we think we can do better. As we evaluate the ACE Grant program, we'd like to know more about how your schools implement the program. ACE Grant Program participants received a short survey via email. If you're a current participant of the ACE Grant Program and complete the survey, we'll give you $75 off of our upcoming May Conference. Hurry up time is running out!
