Late last week, President-elect Donald Trump tapped Michigan billionaire and charter school advocate Betsy DeVos as his choice for Education Secretary. DeVos, heading up the nonprofit, the American Federation for Children, has been a fierce proponent of school vouchers, allowing students to use public funds to attend private schools. She is also the former chairwoman of the Michigan Republican Party. Not much is known about DeVos on a National platform, but she has earned her reputation as a staunch advocate of private schools. AACS looks forward to working with the new Secretary on issues that impact our members, such as Gainful Employment or Borrower’s Defense.
The last week of November finds three state legislatures – Ohio, Michigan and Illinois – actively meeting in a year-end veto session. In addition to monitoring states wrapping up their 2016 legislative sessions, AACS is reviewing bills pre-filed for 2017. We expect filings to ramp up this week and next, and we will keep you informed of the latest developments across the country. This report from Brian Newman outlines state pre-filing dates.

Genna Gold from Yelp is back on the schedule and can’t wait to talk to you about "Yelp!" Here’s what she has to say: You may have seen your business on Yelp and read through your reviews, but did you know that only about 1% of consumers on Yelp are adding reviews and photos to the site? Most people go to Yelp to find a great local business when they need one, and a study conducted by Nielsen found that nearly 90% of searches on Yelp result in a transaction within a week. So how do you get these potential clients in your door? This webinar will walk you through how you can use Yelp for Business Owners to put your best foot forward on Yelp and tell the story of your business in a place that consumers are looking to spend. It will also cover how to use your reviews to nurture your most loyal customers, convert more potential customers, and how to handle your negative feedback.
