Illinois’ Senate voted 52 to 0 last Thursday to send HB 4883 to Governor Bruce Rauner (R). The measure, which did not receive a single “nay” vote in either chamber, would allow prospective barbers and cosmetologists to test after completing 1,200 hours of instruction. Applicants for licensure as an esthetician may take the licensure examination after completing 600 hours of instruction, and applicants for licensure as a nail technician may take the licensure examination after completing 280 hours of instruction.
Due to decreased state legislative activity, this summary of key state legislative and regulatory developments of interest to AACS members will be published the remainder of the year on the first and third weeks of the month. Weekly updates will resume in January as all 50 state legislature will convene in 2019.
