Last Wednesday in Atlanta, the AACS Board of Directors had the unique opportunity to share over an hour and a half with the Chair of the House Education and the Workforce Committee.
Taking time out of a busy Board agenda, AACS’ leadership discussed directly with the driving force behind the development of H.R. 4508 – The Promoting Real Opportunity, Success, and Prosperity through Education Reform (PROSPER) Act both our communities’ appreciation and support for a number of provisions contained within the Committee passed proposal, as well as provisions contained within the bill that we are hoping to work with her and the Committee to revise as efforts to reauthorize the Higher Education Act of 1965 move forward.
Chairwoman Foxx listened attentively to the supportive comments and recommendations of the Board, committed to continuing to work with AACS on issues important to our students and schools, and shared with the Board recent actions she has taken to advance the bill towards House floor consideration.
According to Chairwoman Foxx, she has already met with various factions of the Republican caucus in an effort to whip support for the bill, has spoken with Leadership to seek time on the legislative calendar to bring the legislation to the full House, and hopes that the legislation will be considered and passed out of the House sometime during the month of March.
