Hour Reduction Bills Introduced in Kentucky and South Dakota
A bill to reduce the course of instruction for cosmetology from 2,100 hours to 1,500 hours was introduced last week in South Dakota by the House Health and Human Services Committee at the request of the Department of Labor and Regulation. The state’s Cosmetology Commission voted in July 2017 to make such a recommendation to the legislature. HB 1026 also proposes to move South Dakota from two-tier Instructor licensing to a one-tier system.
In Kentucky, legislation to reduce the course of instruction required for licensure as an esthetician from 1,000 to 700 hours was introduced last week and referred to the House Licensing, Occupations, & Administrative Regulations Committee.
