Japanese Beetle Infestation: What’s new?

A revised regulated area for Japanese beetle came into effect on February 7. The regulated area includes downtown Vancouver, the West End, Stanley Park, and False Creek and extends east to Clark Drive, south to 12th Avenue and west to Burrard Street, including Kits Point. View the Regulated Area map.

Plant material and soil movement restrictions continue until further notice.

The CFIA has established a regulated area for Japanese beetle around the False Creek area of Vancouver. Since the Japanese beetle feeds below and above ground on the roots of turfgrass its preferred host and on the leaves, flowers and fruit of over 250 species of plants, the movement of plant material and soil out of the regulated area is restricted:

Written permission is required from CFIA before landscapers/grounds maintenance staff move soil or plant material out of the regulated area. There are some exemptions for certain materials. Movement of these materials WITHIN the Regulated Area is not restricted. For more details consult the guidance document.
