City of Vancouver Permitting Updates

Print this Article | Send to Colleague

BOMA will be attending the public hearing on permitting and licensing procedures for commercial renovations on Oct. 14, 2021 to speak in favour of the recommendations. Please feel free to write an email to the city clerks office referencing this report if you support it. Endorsement from our membership will further help the council understand the benefits of these changes to the commercial sector.

If approved at the public hearing, section 4.8 of the Zoning and Development By-law will be amended to exempt the identified low risk, low impact changes in commercial zones for 24 months. These changes include adjusting the classification of subdividing a suite as a major renovation under Part 11 and treating it as a minor renovation; increasing the size of the small suite description from 60 people to 100 people; and removing the change of use/change of occupancy permit for units up to 300 sq/m. The BOMA BEST® exemption is still valid as an acceptable alternative solution for E1 and E2 level objectives.

View a summary table of the recommendations on page 4 of the following recent City of Vancouver Referral Report.
