FortisBC is re-opening their Renewable Natural Gas Program and wants your input

We’re rethinking energy with our customers and industry partners, helping to find ways to significantly reduce the province’s greenhouse gas emissions. With a goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 30 per cent by 2030, we’re innovating, diversifying and collaborating for a more sustainable future for all British Columbians. FortisBC’s path forward includes providing businesses and organizations with Renewable Natural Gas (RNG), a sustainable and affordable option to reduce their Greenhouse Gas emissions. FortisBC gas customers do not need to make significant changes to equipment or operations in order to enroll in the RNG program.

Interest in RNG as a solution to help reduce carbon emissions has grown considerably over the last few years. FortisBC has made significant progress in increasing the supply of RNG, and the program will be able to accept new customers later this year.

If your organization (all, or some sites) requires the equivalent of at least 2,000 GJ/year (555,000 kWh/yr) of energy (natural gas and/or renewable natural gas), and would be interested in enrolling in Fortis BC’s RNG program over the next two years, we would like to hear from you.  Please complete this short survey about your organization’s anticipated demand for RNG by Sept. 17, 2021. This information will help ensure the RNG program is reopened as quickly as possible to provide additional service to new and existing customers.

All individual responses will remain confidential and will be used for the purpose of determining when the supply of RNG will be sufficient to allow reopening of the program given the anticipated demand.  The demand indicated by these responses may be used as part of FortisBC’s RNG Comprehensive Program Review Application to be filed with the British Columbia Utilities Commission in late 2021, and if so, will be anonymized.

FortisBC will make public the date at which the program will be reopened for new enrollments at a later date.
