The fall season is upon us and maintenance is crucial to protect your roof from damage. Roofs are often overlooked when it comes to maintaining a building, however, regular reviews can prevent potential costly issues down the road. Here is a list of 10 roof maintenance tips to avoid damage to your roof this fall:

1.   Check the integrity of the caulking at joints and reglets.
2.   Check that drains are clear of debris.
3.   Check for wear in high traffic areas.
4.   Remove dirt and moss build up to avoid growth that can cause destruction of the surface.
5.   Make sure overflows are installed correctly and functioning properly.
6.   Insulate pipes on drains so they don’t freeze over the winter.
7.   Audit roof safety features, i.e. warning lines around the edges, guardrail systems.
8.   Perform a check of doorways, roof hatches, skylights, etc. Confirm they are functioning properly and that any weather stripping or gaskets are intact.
9.   Check fasteners on metal flashing.
10. Look for blisters and worn granules that suggest repairs may be required.
