REMINDER: Register your cooling towers and decorative water features with the City of Vancouver

Print this Article | Send to Colleague

As of January 1, 2020, the City of Vancouver requires a building’s water systems to have an operating permit and be registered with the City. The goal of the operating permit system is to help protect public safety by ensuring building water systems are registered. This helps health officials locate water systems when responding to public health outbreaks such as Legionella pneumophila. The following systems require an operating permit: rainwater harvesting, water treatment systems, cooling towers and decorative water features.

For more information, including what systems require a permit, how to register for an online account and submit your application, visit vancouver.ca/operating-permit.
