Changes to BOMA BEST Questionnaires

On April 23, changes will be made to the BOMA BEST questionnaires. Every building verified after this date is expected to meet the new requirements if seeking points on these questions.
1. Technical Clarification Requests
The changes resulting from this process are as follows:
- TCR 28 – Irrigation Controls: Requirements, answer options and scoring have changed for efficient irrigation controls. Download the TCR 28 Resolution Summary.
- TCR 29 – Electric Water Heater Efficiency: Requirements have been added to reward commercial electric water heaters. Download the TCR 29 Resolution Summary.
- TCR 30 – Carpooling/Car Sharing: Definitions and requirements for accepted initiatives have been expanded. Download the TCR 30 Resolution Summary.
- TCR 31 – Reduction from waste baseline: N/A option has been added for Office, Enclosed Shopping Centre and Universal questionnaires. N/A option is expanded for Light Industrial and Open Air Retail buildings. Download the TCR 31 Resolution Summary.
2. New Questions
In addition to the above, three new innovation questions will be added. For all innovation questions, if the applicant cannot answer “Yes,” they must select “Not Applicable” instead. No points will be lost. Download question details here.
- 04.05.03 – Is the building currently certified with the Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification?
- 05.05.03 – Is the building currently Fitwel certified?
- 10.05.01 – What percentage of the building’s gross leasable area is currently certified with BOMA BEST Sustainable Workplaces? (Note: The question order in section 10.05 will be modified to accommodate this new question)
