CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE

Dear BOMA New York Members,

I recently returned from the annual BOMA International Conference and Expo. The rotating event took place in Salt Lake City and was attended by thousands of BOMA members from around the world. The energy was contagious and the content was informative and invigorating. Topics included proptech, data management, tenant amenities, congestion pricing, waste franchising and long-term energy plans. The three day event concluded with a gala dinner to present 17 commercial properties with The Outstanding Building of the Year (TOBY) Awards.

I’m proud to announce that two New York City owner/manager teams each brought home a TOBY Award. The Hearst Tower won Best Corporate Facility – Owned by the Hearst Corporation and Managed by Tishman Speyer Properties. 280 Park Avenue won Best Renovated Building – Owned by Vornado Realty Trust and SL Green Realty Corp, Managed by CBRE, Inc. This achievement marks the second time in history that BOMA NY won two international TOBYs. These local organizations, together with the other International TOBY winners lead the commercial real estate industry with excellence. I look forward to a new round of BOMA NY Pinnacle winners in February 2020. There is still time to nominate your building, as the deadline was extended to July 12, 2019.

BOMA NY and its Board of Directors are committed to BOMA NY’s mission. From networking to educational programs and from advocacy to special cause issues – BOMA NY is there, adding value every day. We have a few opportunities to join the board in 2020. Please contact Bobbi McGowan (bobbimc@bomany.com) in the BOMA NY office to learn more about these amazing opportunities.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the upcoming Golf Classic and hope that you take advantage of the many programs we have scheduled throughout the rest of the summer.

Sincerely,
Hani J. Salama, PE, LEED-AP
Chair & CEO of BOMA New York

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

The City has been looking to develop a commercial waste zone program (commonly referred to as waste franchising), whereby the City would be divided into zones, and each zone would only be serviced by a small number of waste haulers. Each building or business in each district would only be allowed to hire one of those several companies for their waste management needs.
