BOMA Facts

Dear Members:

I hope everyone is having a great summer. As we round the summer’s midpoint, I wanted to take this opportunity to update you on all things BOMA New York, as well as provide a few highlights on current information affecting the local CRE industry.

I would like to officially welcome Lori Raphael to BOMA New York, our new Executive Director. Equally important, I want to thank Bobbi McGowan for her many years of service to the association, our members, and industry. Lori will leverage the value of BOMA NY, embrace members and strengthen relationships with industry partners. She has already met with REBNY, and the New York Building Congress. Bobbi is now the Executive Director Emeritus. She will assist Lori’s transition into her new role, as well as continue to help steward The Pinnacles, shape the educational curriculum, and reinforce member communication.

BOMA New York is the most active association in the country with BOMI International, offering classes for property management education and professional designations. Championed and orchestrated by our very own Bobbi McGowan, BOMI International recently announced two new professional designations created specifically for trusted service providers (our Allied and Professional Members) – Property Partner Advisor (PPA®) and Facility Partner Advisor (FPA®).

BOMA International has unveiled the State Workforce Development Toolkit, which identifies workforce development programs, grants, education, training, and certification courses state-by-state. This toolkit will enable employers within the CRE industry to provide current and prospective employees with access to career advancement opportunities, as well as fill labor shortages with qualified talent.

Our Emerging Leader Members were hosted by Tishman Speyer for an exclusive tour of Rockefeller Center in July. They were privileged to receive an inside look of what it takes to manage one the globe’s most iconic facilities, followed by a happy hour at The Perfect Pint, hosted by TK Elevator.

The BOMA New York committees and staff are collaborating to develop premier online content and quality in-person seminars for the balance of 2022 and well into 2023. Keep a look out for programming on CRE topics that include but are not limited to carbon neutrality, electrification, security, indoor air quality, construction safety, asset management, the evolution of office and space utilization, and CRE associated local laws.

I am excited to announce plans to expand BOMA NY membership throughout the CRE industry with strategic outreach and growth projections from industrial, life sciences, and hospitality sectors.

Lastly, the Pinnacles are around the corner! The Oscars of the CRE industry will be celebrated at Pier 60 on September 29th. Larry Silverstein will receive the Henry J. Muller Vision Award, alongside twenty-four deserving professionals and dozens of buildings, all nominated to receive a prestigious Pinnacle Award. Congratulations to all the individuals and buildings that have been nominated. If you would like to recognize a nominee, click here to take a congratulatory ad, and/or become a sponsor for this spectacular evening.

Enjoy the rest of the summer and see you at The Pinnacles!

Sincerely,
Matt Duthie
Chair
