BOMA Facts

Dear Members:

I write to you on the heels of another BOMA New York Golf Classic.  The sold-out signature event at Edgewood Country Club was picture perfect, filled with healthy competition and a whole lot of smiles.  Thank you to our gracious
sponsors and all participants on the green and at the dinner.

As we roll into the second half of the year, I am delighted to review a few of the other BOMA NY highlights to date.

CRE executives filled the rooftop at 230 Fifth for the Members Only Spring Networking Event – which undoubtedly becomes the most beautiful night
of the year – stellar views, good food, and great company.

Energy Action Day at Club 101 sold out and was the most optimistic and forward-thinking event as it relates to what NYSERDA and CRE owners/managers are doing to achieve carbon neutrality.

Members of BOMA New York claimed half of the TOBY Awards at the Middle Atlantic Regional Conference in April. They will now go on to compete at the BOMA International TOBY Awards at the Convention in Nashville on June 28, 2022.

The BOMI curriculum is in full swing for those that are pursuing RPA and FMA designations. I am proud to announce that we’ve awarded 18 Scholarships in 2022 thus far.

Membership for Emerging Leaders has increased by 20%.  They regularly get together for exclusive building tours, continued education, and to interact face-to-face.

Monthly Forum presentations are eye-opening and feature CRE topics not found anywhere else.

While we celebrate the past, we also continue to have our eyes set on the future.  The BOMA NY Board recently met with – Henry Chamberlain, President and COO, as well as Thomas Stefaniak, Vice President of Association Services – both from BOMA International to strategize a Long Range Plan for BOMA New York, one of the most influential local associations in the world.  The following is a high-level overview of the plan and actionable items.

Influence State legislation that impacts CRE in New York City, with the intent to ensure the City’s Building Codes are safe, fair, and equitable.

Leverage our legislative efforts and media relations to raise awareness and educate the industry on all related issues.

Provide a comprehensive menu of offerings throughout one’s comprehensive career, with a goal to increase education event attendance by 15%.

The Long Range Plan is grounded by reinforcing the value of BOMA NY throughout Membership.  With an emphasis on all members, we will:

Expand the diversity of BOMA New York’s Membership to reflect the marketplace.

Engage more Students and Young Professionals.

Embrace Healthcare and Life Sciences Membership with new events and building tours.

Cultivate relationships to attract owners/managers of Industrial, Distribution, and Warehouse properties.

If you are looking to further your career by joining one of the BOMA New York committees, or by assisting with one of the many objectives of our Long Range Plan, please let me know.  I welcome your email anytime at chair@bomany.com.

The summer is here, which means the 2022 Pinnacle Awards is around the corner and not to be missed.  The Pinnacles, AKA the Oscars for commercial real estate, is scheduled for September 29th at Pier 60.  Sponsorships and tickets are still available.  Please contact Ami Shah at the BOMA NY office (ami@bomany.com) for more information.

I wish everyone a safe, enjoyable and productive summer.  Stay connected, get involved and be engaged.

Sincerely,
Matt Duthie
Chair
