1. How did you first get involved with BOMA New York? How long have you been a BOMA New York member?    

I have been involved with BOMA New York for over 30 years. I first got involved when I was invited to attend a BOMA New York meeting with other senior members. I was just starting off in the industry and learned a lot because BOMA New York was one of the only places to get industry knowledge at that time.

 

2. What is your favorite BOMA New York event? Why?

I enjoy our Annual Conference and Leadership Breakfast in October for two reasons. First, its when BOMA New York announces the election of officers and second, it’s the one conference a year where we have some very important speakers to discuss current events.

 

3. What are some of your responsibilities as a member of BOMA New York’s Board of Directors?

My most important responsibility as a member of the BOMA New York Board of Directors is to ensure the long-term vision of the organization is managed and pushed forward. The board is also responsible for overseeing the financial accountability of the organization and its growth.

 

4. Are you part of any BOMA New York committees? If so, what does that entail?

Right now, I am the Co-Chair of the Codes and Regulations Committee. It’s one of the most important committees because we interact with many city agencies such as the fire department and the department of buildings. The committee is made up of various sub-committees and I always learn something new at monthly meetings. My main responsibility is to make sure we have active members in all sub-committees and that trending topics are put on the agenda.

 

5. Do you think being a BOMA New York member has influenced your role as Senior Property Manager at Tishman Speyer? If so, how?

Absolutely. I believe BOMA New York helped me get to my current senior level position. The organization has also allowed me to acquire industry contacts and information which has made me a better Senior Property Manager at Tishman Speyer.

 

6. What do you think has been your biggest accomplishment at BOMA New York?

My proudest accomplishment was when I was awarded the BOMA New York Local Member of the Year award in 2007. In addition, after 9/11 I helped form the Emergency Preparedness Committee, which is now called the Preparedness Committee. The committee focuses on everything from security to weather related events. I believe that being prepared for the unexpected is very important for everyone in the industry.

 

7. How do you think BOMA New York has changed since you have become a member?

Without a doubt technology has changed in the industry and BOMA New York on every level. It has changed the way we interact with tenants, the way we manage our buildings and how we manage budgets. It has led us to adopt new practices both at BOMA New York and in our respective industry careers.

 

8. If you could give some advice to someone starting out in the commercial real estate industry, what would you share with them?

Become an active member of BOMA NY. You get much more out of the organization than you put into it. BOMA New York is an incredible way to develop your network of industry professionals and the organization provides important information for being effective in your job and career development.
