BOMA Facts

1. How long have you been a BOMA New York member?

I first got involved with BOMA New York back in 1997. I’m proud to say last year marked the 20th anniversary of my membership.

2. What is your favorite BOMA New York event? Why?

I have to say the Pinnacle Awards. Back in 2012, 11 Times Square won the Pinnacle Award for New Construction, when I was the general manager. It is a great night to get out with your colleagues and team members to celebrate these amazing accomplishments. Even if you don’t win, it is a great honor to be nominated and recognized. It is always a fantastic evening and one that everybody looks forward to.

3. What are some of your responsibilities as a member of BOMA New York’s Board of Directors?

I have many responsibilities as a member of BOMA New York’s Board of Directors. Most importantly, I assist the association officers with determining the direction BOMA New York is headed.

4. Are you part of any BOMA New York committees? If so, what does that entail?

Previously, I sat on the Board from 2010-2013 and was excited to join again this past spring. In addition to the Board, I was also assigned as the chair of the Pinnacle Awards Engineer of the Year Sub-Committee, which is a new category in the awards program this year. The sub-committee will include a group of judges that will interview the nominees and select the most deserving Operating Engineer of the Year and Chief Operating Engineer of the Year. The winner will be announced at the Pinnacle Awards based on the impact they are making on their asset, how they work with management teams and how they are mentoring the new generation of workers in the industry. This category is something BOMA NY has talked about for a long time because engineers make such a dramatic impact on things we do every day. We are excited to be recognizing them for their important work.

5. Do you think being a BOMA New York member has influenced your role as Property Manager at The Durst Organization? If so, how?

Yes, absolutely. When you are involved with BOMA NY on any level, you have access to everything coming down the pipeline including new regulations, information about elevators, AC or water treatments. I have the ability to bring that information back to our ownership team and plan accordingly. BOMA NY has made me a more educated professional in the industry. They do a great job of keeping members informed.

6. What do you think has been your biggest accomplishment at BOMA New York?

Having the ability to go back to The Durst Organization and make sure they are aware of current and future happenings in the industry. It is great to be able to keep them updated on trends and has allowed me to significantly progress in my professional career.

7. Are there any upcoming events or initiatives within BOMA New York that you are looking forward to?

One initiative we are rolling out is the mentorship program. Through this program, members with experience in the industry can volunteer their time to mentor those who are new to real estate. I think that this program is innovative and I am already signed up as a mentor. I guide my mentee through the industry and help him grow professionally. BOMA NY members are always eager to share their industry expertise and knowledge and this program is the perfect platform for them to do so.

8. If you could give some advice to someone starting out in the commercial real estate industry, what would you share with them?

Put yourself out there. Reach out to somebody you admire that has been successful and introduce yourself, ask for their opinions and pick their brains. Get involved in the committees at BOMA New York because this will benefit you professionally and benefit your clients.
