BOMA Facts

Q. How were you first introduced to BOMA New York?

I have been a BOMA member for 20 years and was first introduced to the association while working in the Washington, D.C. metro area. I joined BOMA New York soon after I moved to the New York City area in 2002.

Q. Have you held a leadership role in BOMA New York and what did that position mean to you?

I currently serve as Chair for the Long-Range Planning Committee. Last year, we held a day-long session where we brought in an outside consultant to meet with several of our board members and committee chairs. The objective was to map out goals and growth strategies to take the association to the next level. In addition, I have served on the Board of Directors for three years and have been elected as BOMA New York Secretary for 2018.

Q. What is your favorite part about being a BOMA New York Member?

My favorite part of being a BOMA New York member is the people I have met. Though I am a people-person, I can also be an introvert and BOMA has given me the opportunity to easily connect with others. One of the most important connections I’ve been fortunate to make is through being a member of the Codes and Regulations Committee. Making this connection has helped me connect with members on the sub-committees and hear the information they share during our monthly meetings.

Q. How do you use your BOMA New York membership in your day-to-day activities and in a professional setting?

My BOMA New York membership allows me to access resources and knowledge that help me tackle portions of my job with more confidence. Some of the valuable and important resources BOMA New York offers include the opportunity to join a committee, attend educational seminars and stay informed about legislative issues.

Q. What do you consider to be the greatest benefit of attending BOMA New York events?

To me, the greatest benefit of attending events is the available opportunities to gain information, ask questions and meet new peers.

Q. How can BOMA New York help mentor younger generations entering the industry?

Over the past few years, we have launched several initiatives to help the younger generation get more involved with the association. For example, the Emerging Leaders membership program allows them access to everything the association offers for a minimal cost. This membership requires them to join a committee, which is a great way to get involved with the association from the beginning. Our new mentoring program allows BOMA New York to connect a seasoned professional with someone who is just starting in our industry. Keeping the next generation involved is critical to the future of BOMA New York.
