BOMA Facts

Q: When choosing BOMA New York’s Mentorship program, what were you looking to gain from the experience?

Christa: Being new to the industry and in an entry level position, I was hoping to see where my talents and past experiences could be of best value not only within my company – but in and outside the organization like BOMA NY.

Q: How would you describe the program and your process thus far?

Christa: For this program to work, both parties need to be 100 percent committed. Erin and I meet every other week in person to go over future goals and challenges met. This relationship has motivated me to get more involved within the commercial real estate community and expand my network.

Q: What have you learned from Erin thus far and how has it impacted your daily work life?

Christa: Erin invited me for a tour of one of her facilities, Christie’s Auction House in Rockefeller Plaza. During the tour, I was exposed to a different perspective of property management and facilities. I was enlightened by the critical maintenance programs and unique protocols that Erin’s team had put in place. All of this was especially impressive having taken place at such an iconic institution in Rockefeller Plaza. Ultimately, I was able to gather useful processes and ideas that I hope to implement at my own property.

Q: Would you recommend this program to others who are new to the industry?

Christa: Absolutely! Erin’s knowledge and expertise has empowered me to be more vocal about my thoughts, opinions and what I am able to offer to the commercial real estate business. The program already has a lot of the industry’s top talent and an international reach. I think the program is very beneficial; all newcomers should get involved!

Q: What is it like being Christa’s mentor?

Erin:  I love it! Christa is at the perfect entry point in her career and her involvement with BOMA NY so early on is inspiring.  She is motivated to learn, which has allowed me to expose her to different aspects of the industry.

Q: What do you want Christa to gain from this program?

Erin: I want Christa to become more involved within the real estate community and get to know her peers. I want her to utilize her past experiences as they should never be discounted or undervalued. Any areas she wishes to develop, I hope to help her strengthen.

Q: Your involvement within the industry is strongly recognized; for example, you are a nominee for this year’s BOMA New York Pinnacle Manager of the Year award. In what capacity do you and Christa plan to volunteer for BOMA NY in the future?

Erin: Christa and I hope to inspire more women to seek careers in real estate and to become more involved with BOMA NY. We wish to establish a reoccurring, after work, social gathering where women in the industry can come together once-a-week to support one another and work on common goals.

Q: What have you gained from this experience and would you recommend this program to other participants of the mentor level?

Erin: Yes – even though I am Christa’s mentor, I feel that we both learned a significant amount from one another. We have gained a strong relationship and friendship that I can thank BOMA NY for.  I strongly recommend those with experience to participate in this program. We are preparing the next generation for the future!
