The Construction Safety Council (CSC) is hosting free four-hour trainings on working safely with electricity in construction. Training sessions will be held 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on February 14, April 19, and May 16 at the CSC offices at 4415 W. Harrison Street, Suite 404, in Hillside, IL. Electricity has long been recognized as a serious workplace hazard. Whether you work directly with electricity or around it, the potential for electric shock, electrocution, fires, and explosions exist. Some workers are completely unaware of the potential electric hazards present in their work envirnment, which makes them more vulnerable to the danger of electrocution.

Through this course, participants will learn:

  • Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) standards for electrical safety, including inspection and safe use of equipment, and the control of hazardous energy (Lockout/Tagout)
  • Additional safe work practices and procedures as determined by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 70E) – Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace.
  • The decision making process for which to perform a job safety plan, identify hazards, assess risks, and select appropriate risk control methods from the hierarchy of controls, including personal protective equipment.
