Positions in the British Columbia School Counsellors’ Association (BCSCA)
Most positions are open to any member to run for as we hold elections every year. Current Executives may put their names forward to stand for the future year, but any member can choose to run against them.
President: Norberta Heinrichs (current President) has put her name forward to stand as President. This position is open to other applicants as well.
Role: The President leads the BCSCA, providing strategic guidance and professional leadership. They preside over meetings, serve as the main liaison with the BCTF, and ensure the association’s goals are met. The President also recommends and oversees the formation of committees and represents the association on the PSA Council.
Vice-President – Wellness: Shirley Giroux (current VP-W) has put her name forward to stand as VP Wellness. This position is open to other applicants as well.
Role: The Vice-President - Wellness supports the President, acting in their absence and ensuring member well-being. They liaise with professional organisations, contribute to executive meetings, and oversee wellness-related matters for BCSCA members.
Vice-President - Professional Development: After 4 years of work in the VP position and many years on the BCSCA exec, Katherine Brach is standing down as VP - Pro-D. We are thankful for her time and passion. We wish her good luck in her future endeavors. Katie Dereus (current Secretary) has put her name forward to stand as VP Pro-D. This position is open to other applicants as well.
Role: The Vice-President - Professional Development promotes ongoing learning within the BCSCA, fostering growth through workshops and support for chapters. They assist with planning conferences, developing policy, and collaborating on professional development initiatives.
Vice-President – Advocacy: William Nicholls-Allison (current VP-A) has put his name forward to stand as VP Advocacy for a second year. This position is open to other applicants as well.
Role: The Vice-President - Advocacy focuses on promoting the role and importance of school counselling across BC. They chair the Advocacy Committee and work with stakeholders to raise awareness of school counselling’s value.
Secretary: This position is open and has no applicants yet.
Role: The Secretary ensures efficient communication within the BCSCA by recording and distributing meeting minutes. They manage correspondence, handle logistical duties, and help with policy-related initiatives.
Treasurer: Nicole Thompson (current Treasurer) has put her name forward to stand as Treasurer. This position is open to other applicants as well.
Role: The Treasurer manages the BCSCA’s financial health, preparing budgets, authorising expenditures, and liaising with the BCTF on financial matters. They present annual financial reports and help shape the association’s fee structure.
Membership Chairperson: Trish Maas (current MC) has put her name forward to stand as Membership Chairperson. This position is open to other applicants as well.
Role: The Membership Chairperson coordinates membership recruitment and renewals, maintaining up-to-date member records. They ensure strong chapter development and serve as a primary liaison for membership matters.
Conference Chairperson: After many years on the BCSCA executive and a final conference organization, Shannon Confortin is stepping down as Conference Chairperson. We will dearly miss our Shannon. This role position is open and has no applicants yet. Have no fear, Shannon has left materials to support the next chairperson in this role!
Role: The Conference Chairperson organises the BCSCA’s annual conference, ensuring successful delivery and alignment with the association’s objectives. They oversee event logistics, content curation, and collaboration with the executive.
Publications Chairperson: Lexa Villette (current PC) has put her name forward to stand as Publications Chairperson. This position is open to other applicants as well.
Role: The Publications Chairperson manages the editing and distribution of the BCSCA’s BC Counsellor Magazine, our newsletter The Catalyst, as well as blog posts and communications for the BCSCA. They ensure alignment with the association’s objectives and goals, recommend and recruit contributors, and maintain professional publication standards through their revision and writing skills.
Member-at-Large - Local Liaison: Rebecca Britton (current LL) has put her name forward to stand in the position of Local Liaison. This position is open to other applicants as well.
Role: The Member-at-Large: Local Liaison strengthens connections between BCSCA members and the association by welcoming chapter representatives, supporting local professional development, and coordinating conference volunteers.
Member-at-Large: Technology: Duane Morelli (current T) has put his name forward to stand in the position of Technology chair. This position is open to other applicants as well. .
Role: The Member-at-Large: Technology manages the BCSCA’s online presence, maintaining the website and listservs. They ensure smooth digital communication, manage credentials, and promote member engagement through technology
