Registration Open: Cutting Edge of Transplantation 2026
Join us at CEoT 2026, a three-day meeting focused on advancing transplantation science, clinical practice, and patient outcomes. This meeting will explore the future of transplantation across all organ types, highlighting innovation, equity, and lifelong patient care. Hear from leading experts and engage in interactive breakout sessions across specialties, focusing on emerging technologies, allocation strategies, and the changing landscape of organ disease.
Updates on Efforts and Resources Related to Transplant Nephrology Training
In fall 2024, the ACGME approved the application from the joint ASN-AST Task Force to recognize transplant nephrology as an accredited subspecialty of nephrology. By supporting a broad and nationwide adoption of uniformly rigorous transplant nephrology training, ASN and AST hope to improve the quality of care provided to patients in both the pre-and post-transplant phases.
A webpage has been created to share ongoing updates and resources related to this new accreditation.
New AJT Article: Transplant Recipients Share Perspectives on Immunosuppressant Needs
Source: American Journal of Transplantation
Last year, with your support, AST conducted a national patient survey that received nearly 10,000 responses from transplant recipients. The goal: to better understand perceptions of unmet immunosuppressant needs. The findings from this important research have now been published in the American Journal of Transplantation.

AST Public Policy Form
The AST developed a survey aimed at soliciting your perspectives on legislative and regulatory issues that significantly influence both patient care and professional practice. Our goal is to establish a platform for our membership to share their invaluable ideas and perspectives and actively engage with the Public Policy Committee and AST leadership. We look forward to your input as we navigate the dynamics of our ever-evolving landscape of transplant care and practice.

Evaluation of the stability of organ procurement organization performance metrics
Source: American Journal of Transplantation
In 2020, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services updated the organ procurement organization (OPO) conditions for coverage, redefining deceased donor potential as all inpatient deaths among patients aged ≤75 years with a primary cause of death consistent with organ donation, also called CALC (cause, age [years], and location consistent with donation). This study evaluates CALC performance metrics using 2018-2021 data from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) mortality data (currently used by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality’s State Inpatient Databases. We analyzed yearly performance variability, compared data sources, and examined the impact of CALC vs CALC-adjusted, which excludes donors with potential contraindications.
Determinants of Virological Outcomes in Kidney Transplant Recipients Treated with Maribavir for Refractory CMV Infection
Source: American Journal of Transplantation
Maribavir has demonstrated promising efficacy in treating refractory cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections among solid organ transplant recipients; however, factors influencing favourable outcomes remain uncertain. We conducted a retrospective cohort study that involved 88 kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) from 22 transplantation centers, all of whom had refractory CMV infections treated with maribavir (63 with ganciclovir resistance mutations and 25 without). CMV clearance at week 8 was achieved in 45 KTRs (51.1%).
Early Postreperfusion Proteomics Reveal Divergent Inflammatory Responses in Kidney Transplantation with Implications on Outcomes
Source: LWW Journals
Ischemia/reperfusion injury is an unavoidable consequence of kidney transplantation, yet the characteristics of the immediate immune response after reperfusion and its impact on transplant outcomes remain poorly characterized in the clinical setting.
