PASSING OF LARRY (RICK) DORSEY- FORMER ASBO MEMBER

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Larry (Rick) Dorsey, former Manager of Custodial Services, and husband of current HCPSS employee, Ruth Dorsey, and father of Chasity Dorsey.

Larry Ricardo Dorsey, age 61, died on Thursday, April 7, 2016, at Gilchrist Hospice in Columbia. He is the beloved husband of Ruth Ann Dorsey (nee Myers) of 41 years, devoted son of the late Leon Edward, Sr. and Doris Hopkins Dorsey, devoted father of Chasity L. Dorsey of Atlanta, GA, and loving brother of Carlton Dorsey, Sr., Brandon Dorsey, Molly Bell, Barbara Smith and the late Leon E. Dorsey, Jr.

In addition to Rick’s dedicated service to the Howard County Public School System, he was also a valued member of the Maryland and District of Columbia Association of School Business Officials (ASBO-MD/DC). For those not aware, ASBO promotes high-quality, exemplary school business practices, professional development, and communications to school business officials to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of quality support services to educational communities which contributes to a measurable improvement in student performance. His early leadership roles included Facilities Section Director, Chairperson of the Conference Arrangements Committee, and Director-at-Large. Rick concluded his ASBO involvement by heading up the Workshop and Seminars program, the forerunner of our focus on being the state leader of professional development for the school business official. Rick was instrumental in coordinating many professional development seminars and served as a mentor to many members of the ASBO community.
