Join AATA Board Member Marybeth Orton, MA, ATR-BC, ATCS, ICST, LPAT-S, for Calming the Traumatized Brain: Brain-Based Techniques for Trauma and Anxiety, a virtual Continuing Education session on art therapy and psychosensory practices such as self-havening and tapping. The session will explore brain-based strategies that help regulate trauma responses, build resilience, support emotional well-being, and understand tools that can support both client healing and practitioner self-regulation.

Everyone is welcome! The session is free for AATA Student Members to attend and discounted for AATA Members ($52). Attendees may earn 2 CE credits. Cannot attend “live"? Register to receive the recording and watch at your own pace.

In recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, AATA is hosting a virtual Continuing Education session on April 7 at 7pm ET. This session, Recognizing and Responding to Sexual Violence, will be led by Karin Kelley of Doorways VA. Karin will offer important insights into understanding sexual violence, recognizing its many forms, and learning practical strategies to respond, including bystander intervention as a critical strategy for disrupting sexual violence.

The session is open to all and FREE for AATA Members ($40 for non-members). Participants may earn 1 CE Credit.

During Creative Arts Therapies Week, the third week of March, we raise awareness about art therapy and other life-enhancing mental health professions, alongside our partners at the National Coalition of Creative Arts Therapies Associations. As you know, Creative Arts Therapists are mental health professionals who use arts-based interventions and creative processes for optimizing mental health and wellness. They are trained and credentialed according to their distinct profession, each with a unique scope of practice.

ADVOCACY UPDATES
A new bipartisan resolution in Georgia, H. Res. 1007, formally recognizes the arts as a resource for mental health! The resolution states: “the members of this body acknowledge the essential role of artists, arts organizations, art therapists, and arts for health initiatives in supporting recovery from trauma, addressing mental health concerns and conditions, building community resilience, and increasing public safety.” This resolution is the first of its kind to be passed by a state.
In early March, AATA submitted a public comment on a proposed student loan change by the US Department of Education that would define “professional student” for purposes of determining federal student loan amounts based on the type of program in which a student is enrolled.

Building on that work, AATA joined the Mental Health Liaison Group and dozens of national organizations in sending a joint letter to the Department regarding the proposed changes.
