By AATA Undergraduate Education Committee

The Pre-Art Therapy Education Guidelines grew out of a need to ensure relevance and ethical practice in the development and delivery of undergraduate pre-art therapy education. They provide educators a resource to develop, deliver, and strengthen undergraduate pre-art therapy education.

Heather Denning and Jennifer Schwartz led a discussion about the guidelines on Nov. 7, and the recording is now available for view.
We are excited to announce two new virtual Continuing Education opportunities for the New Year!

“I am currently running for Congress to advocate for mental health. Throughout my nearly 30-year career, I witnessed that mental health issues (depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction, etc) do not discriminate based on political affiliation. I believe the country is in need of leaders that possess the unique skills we have as therapists to listen with compassion, treat people without judgment or discrimination, and help to make lives better in all those we serve.”

JOURNAL NEWS

The special issue, Psychedelics and Art Therapy: Therapeutic Intersections and Clinical Applications, will focus on ways that psychedelic-assisted therapies might impact the creative process and how art therapy can complement, support, and extend the healing potential of psychedelic medicines.  We are interested in clinical models, theoretical and educational paradigms, case reports, cultural and ethical positions, and research into how art therapy may be leveraged and integrated with psychedelic healing.

Manuscript deadline: June 30, 2026

Special Issue Editors: Rebecca Wilkinson and Alyssa Gursky
