AATA News
Thank you to more than 1,055 of you who attended the AATA2025 Conference!

> Congresswoman Maxine Dexter, MD, welcomed us to Portland via video
> Our keynote speaker Tucker Bryant taught us to “think inside the box.” Using the tools of his craft – poetry – he helped us to be more empowered advocates, better prepared for change, and open to try new things.
> Oregon Senate Majority Leader Senator Kayse Jama, sponsor of the groundbreaking Medicaid art therapy legislation in Oregon, discussed how we can transform awareness into action by educating lawmakers, raising awareness, and building coalitions.
> The Open Art Studio brought attendees together—and provided a spot for creativity and down-time between sessions. [VIDEO]
> More than 150 learning sessions taught by some amazing members of our art therapy community.
> Plus, we met some llamas and alpacas from Mountain Peaks Therapy!

Thank you for being with us in Portland! None of this would be possible without your inspiration, engagement, and connection!

We are proud to have Dr. Lynn Kapitan, ATR-BC, HLM, as our Virtual Conference Plenary Moderator. She will be joined by AATA President Nadia Paredes, MA, LMFT, ATR, AATA Board Secretary Michael Galarraga, LPC, ATR-BC, CSAC, CSOTP, and DeLora Putnam-Bryant, MSAT, ATR-BC, for the session, Meeting this Moment: Art Therapy’s Collective Response to Hate and Fear.

With political attacks on vulnerable communities growing, Dr. Kapitan will lead a conversation about how art therapists can disrupt harm and respond effectively in the face of oppression, hate, and fear of the “other." The session will be held on Oct. 25, 10 - 11:30am ET.

After many years of work, the Undergraduate Education Committee's new guidelines for undergraduate art therapy programs have been approved by the AATA Board. The guidelines grew out of a need to ensure relevance and ethical practice in the development and delivery of undergraduate pre-art therapy education. They provide educators a resource to develop, deliver, and strengthen undergraduate pre-art therapy education. [Download the Guidelines here]

Please join Heather Denning, LPAT, LSW, ATR-BC, ATCS, ATCS, and Jennifer Schwartz, MAAT, LPAT, ATR-BC, ATCS, for a discussion about the newly created guidelines and next steps. November 7, 10:30 – 11:45am ET [Register here]
