We’re thrilled to announce that this year’s keynote speaker for AATA's annual art therapy conference is Tucker Bryant, a nationally renowned poet. Tucker believes that the tools used by poets to innovate through language and introspection can help drive creative thinking and “unlock change.”  Join us for incredible learning opportunities, including more than 190 Core Program sessions, and networking opportunities like the Shared Interest Group (SIG) meetings, and Opening Reception and Closing Party. And don’t miss the Open Art Studio, which is the heart of the conference, where you can process what you’re learning, meet new people, or just make art! Early Bird registration for AATA2025, our in-person conference in Portland, Oregon, ends Saturday, June 28! Rates go up on June 29, so register before the deadline to ensure the lowest rates.

In honor of Disability Pride Month, we are hosting a 2-hour virtual Continuing Education session, Art Therapy and Disability Justice in Mental Health, July 29. We'll learn from presenters Miki Nishida Goerdt, LCSW, LCSW-C, ATR-BC; Beth Ann (BA) Short, MA, LCAT, ATR-BC, ATCS; Noel King, MAAT, ATR-BC, PhD Candidate; and Nicky Sullivan, Art Therapy Master’s Student at George Washington University. They will discuss the principles of disability justice and the role art therapists play in this framework as mental health professionals. The panelists will also examine key aspects of disability culture, share practical strategies for making art therapy more accessible, and discuss how art therapists can foster allyship with disability communities, serving as agents of cultural change in the fight against ableism. We are excited to collaborate once again with Grabie to support mental health and spread awareness about art therapy with the launch of the Grabie x AATA Rock Your Inner Strength 4-Week Workbook! Grabie will donate 10% of the proceeds from this product to AATA to support the work we do to advance the art therapy profession. At a time when our nation is experiencing mental health crises affecting Americans of all ages and backgrounds, AATA hopes that this “Rock Your Inner Strength” workbook will help people explore the power of art-making in wellness. Learn More... This Pride Month is an opportunity to support the LGBTQ+ community’s ongoing fight for safety, inclusivity, equality, and justice. Executive Orders have targeted the trans community—from defunding gender-affirming health care for transgender youth to banning trans people from serving in the military. More than 350 LGBTQ+ pages, policies, and guides have been removed from federal government websites. And already, 588 anti-LGBTQ bills have been introduced in state legislatures across the country. Thank you to everyone who joined us for our June continuing education event Queer Worldmaking in Art Therapy: Affirming Queer/Trans Lives Through Creative Practice. If you weren’t able to attend, we hope you will watch it via the Online Learning Academy and take a look at this blog for ways to continue to participate, learn, and share.

“I had an absolutely wonderful time at this past year’s AATA conference in Pittsburgh, PA. For my first time attending an AATA Conference, I was able to reunite with art therapists I met and admired in the field. I learned about the different applications art therapy has within different populations. I was able to be a witness to the active support art therapists gave to each other, and this furthered my motivation to work towards my goals within the field. ‘This is where I belong!’ ” Learn more about Irene Silva.
