Each year, AATA proudly honors Members through peer-nominated awards presented during the Annual In-Person Conference and at a virtual awards ceremony. The 2026 Call for Applications is now open! There are over 15 awards and scholarships available, including scholarships to the AATA National Conference and honors/awards for work in research, clinical practice, advocacy, and more! Apply for a scholarship or nominate an AATA Member who deserves to be celebrated for their outstanding contributions to the field. Eligibility is limited to AATA Members for both nominations and receipt of awards. The deadline to submit a nomination or application is Friday, June 12.
We are thrilled to announce that Early Bird registration is now open for AATA2026—for both the in-person at Charlotte, North Carolina, October 15–17, and the Virtual Conference, November 14–15! Registering during Early Bird will ensure you get the lowest prices of the year. What To Expect at AATA2026 in Charlotte → 150+ Continuing Education sessions across 9 subject tracks → Morning plenary sessions → Open Art Studio, where attendees process what they’ve learned, meet others, or just make art → Pre-Conference Advanced Practice Courses on October 14 and experiential Workshops (additional tickets are required and cover art supplies). Spots for these sessions are limited and fill up fast! → Master-Level Clinical Supervision Sessions, Shared Interest Groups meetings, the Arts & Crafts Marketplace, + more! All conference events will take place at the Sheraton/Le Meridien Hotel Complex, and staying there will help you connect with other attendees. The hotel is located in Charlotte's Uptown district, which puts you steps away from the city's thriving arts scene, great food, and outdoor activities! Book your room through AATA's Hotel Block (October 12–18) at a discounted rate.
AATA's 2026 Ethics Series, Relational and Resilient Ethics in Art Therapy Practice, examines what ethical practice means in today's clinical landscape. Across three individual sessions, Dr. Lisa Hinz, Dr. Jordan Potash, Dr. Traci Bitondo, and Dr. Natashia Collins explore strengths-based ethical decision-making, maintaining therapeutic relationships across political and cultural divides, and preparing for unexpected absence through professional wills. Individual sessions are $55 for AATA Members or $80 for non-members, or register for the full 6 CE credit bundle ($138 for Members/$210 for non-members). Not a member? Learn more about Membership
Join the International Shared Interest Group on Monday, June 29 from 7:00–8:00pm ET for a virtual session of dialogue and creative reflection on what it means to build spaces that foster community, justice, and shared responsibility. This meeting is open to all AATA Members.
Learn More... We spoke with AATA Member Kirsten Eby, ATR-BC, LPC, an art therapist based in Phoenix, Arizona, about how her clinical work and leadership in advocacy have shaped her professional identity. Kirsten volunteered with the Arizona Art Therapy Association to help pass a bill to ensure title protection for art therapists in Arizona and is currently working with other art therapists in Arizona to explore the possibility of gaining licensure for art therapists in the state. "I hope that art therapy continues to work to gain the respect it deserves through licensure and education to the public. I am excited to continue seeing the research that helps to explain the *magic* of art therapy in order to legitimize what we do as a social science."
There is still time to submit a manuscript for the Art Therapy Journal Special Issue on Psychedelics and Art Therapy: Therapeutic Intersections and Clinical Applications. Deadline is June 30, 2026. Psychedelics and Art Therapy will focus on ways that psychedelic- assisted therapies might impact the creative process and how art therapy can complement, support, and extend the healing potential of psychedelic medicines. Guest editors Rebecca Wilkinson and Alyssa Gursky are interested in clinical models, theoretical and educational paradigms, case reports, cultural and ethical positions, and research into how art therapy may be leveraged and integrated with psychedelic healing. Submit your manuscript here.
