PHTA UPDATES

For our final newsletter of 2022, we're taking a look back at the most popular articles of the year (in chronological order). Thank you for making this PHTA's best year yet! We can't wait for 2023.

PHTA is thrilled to announce the re-launch of our drought awareness campaign, entitled Let’s Pool Together. The campaign is aimed at educating the public and policy makers at state and local levels on the facts about water use in relation to swimming pools and home spas, as well as the economic, social, and public health implications of the pool and spa industry in California and beyond.

At the Pool & Spa Show in Atlantic City last week, Fluidra donated $100,000 to Step Into Swim. Fluidra Executive President & Executive Chairman Eloy Planes Corts, Fluidra CEO Bruce Brooks, and Fluidra North America President Troy Franzen presented the check to PHTA President & CEO Sabeena Hickman and PHTA Vice President of Partnerships & Development Rowdy Gaines.

“Being able to swim isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity,” said Franzen, who also serves on the Step Into Swim Champions Board. “The ability to swim is essential to improving the health and safety of this and future generations, and we are fully invested in the effort to teach people how to swim and be safe around water, regardless of their socioeconomic situation.”

PHTA is excited to launch a new membership series, PHTA Deep Dives: Member Spotlight. We are conducting monthly interviews with PHTA members to learn more about different aspects of the pool, spa, and hot tub industry and creating articles, videos, and audio files to share with you.

Thank you to our first five interviewees: Keith Harbeck and Lance Irby, Chris Curcio, Jennifer Clements, Franceen Gonzales, and Charlie Claffey.

If you weren't able to catch Olympians Rowdy Gaines, Cammile Adams, and Cullen Jones sharing water safety tips on the Today Show last week, you can now watch the full clip on the Today Show website!

Thank you to our partners who made this possible: Endless Pools, Speedo, Fluidra, Claffey Pools, Premier Pools & Spas, Hayward, Mill Bergen Pools, Master Pools Guild, Florida Swimming Pool Association, and the Northeast Spa and Pool Association Foundation.

PHTA is pleased to announce the publication of the ANSI/PHTA/ICC-15 2021 American National Standard for Residential Swimming Pool and Spa Energy Efficiency. PHTA-15 can now be purchased from the PHTA Online Store. The purpose of this new standard is to cover energy efficiency requirements for permanently installed residential aboveground and inground swimming pools and inground spas operated by the property owner and used for bathing.
PHTA is pleased to launch a new member-driven series, Industry Insights. We talk to pool professionals as well as outside sources to give our members the most up-to-date information on industry trends and challenges. Our first article is Push & Pool: What's causing supply chain disruptions – and how to secure the products you need at a reasonable price. Take a look!
With people overall spending more time at home, GENESIS® faculty advisors Feras Irikat and Kate Wiseman, MLA have seen new trends emerging that show a focus on the importance of outdoor living. More clients want to create a personal space that contributes to mental well-being. Read this article from AQUA Magazine to learn more.

PHTA prides itself on providing resources to our members to implement best practices and drive success. Towards that end, PHTA has partnered with an outside research firm to conduct a study that will help our members better understand the purchasing motivations and perceptions of pool owners and non-owners. This new Attitudes & Perceptions Consumer Study provides insights, strategies, and recommendations to drive pool and spa sales by exploring various research objectives among nearly 4,500 pool owners and non-owners. Last week, the PHTA SWT/H2B Coalition met with seven Senate and Congressional offices over two days discussing the importance of the summer work travel program on the seasonal swimming pool industry. PHTA hosted the group and facilitated opportunities for Coalition members to share their stories with Senate and Congressional offices about the importance that the Summer Work Travel (SWT) program has on communities across the United States. The Coalition also advocated for House Resolution 901, which expresses the cultural and economic importance of the Bridge USA/J-1 visa program, and the need for prompt State Department processing of students who work as lifeguards at pools across the country.
PHTA is proud to announce this year’s winners of the PHTA Awards of Excellence. PHTA’s International Awards of Excellence program is one of the largest, most well-renowned design competitions in the pool and hot tub industry.
