PHTA UPDATES

This week is National Apprenticeship Week, and PHTA is celebrating by sharing the successes of its first year of the PHTA Registered Pool Maintenance and Service Technician Apprenticeship Program, registered by the U.S. Department of Labor. Since August 2021, 23 companies from 15 states have enrolled in the program, and nearly 30 apprentices have begun their on-the-job training. To learn more or sign up for the apprenticeship program, contact Seth Ewing, PHTA Senior Director of Member Programs and Services, at sewing@phta.org.
Olympic Gold Medalist Rowdy Gaines, PHTA Vice President of Partnerships & Development, recently wrote an article for Recreation Management on the importance of water safety at aquatic facilities.

If you haven't been able to make it to any of our in-person GENESIS® offerings this fall, there's still time to take C201: GENESIS® CONSTRUCTION SCHOOL: Concrete Pools before the end of the year! Join us virtually December 5-8 to learn all of the necessary disciplines for building a structurally sound water vessel. Topics covered include site analysis, introductory fluid engineering, geotechnical and structural engineering that includes a review of difficult sites, shotcrete, waterproofing, tile, interior finishes, coping, and concrete decking.

Thanks to everyone who has already come by our booths!  We still have lots more education in the next day. Download and see a schedule-at-a-glance for all PHTA and GENESIS® activities in the PHTA Guide to PSP/Expo!

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has issued a pre-publication Federal Register notice proposing to amend the test procedures for dedicated-purpose pool pumps (DPPPs) to incorporate by reference the latest version of the relevant industry standards, to codify DOE’s current enforcement policy regarding the scope of the DPPP test procedure pertaining to DPPPs that cannot be appropriately tested by the current DOE test procedure, to align DOE’s DPPP definitions with DOE’s corresponding DPPP motor definitions, and to remove an obsolete DOE DPPP test procedure appendix. The DOE is hosting a webinar on this topic on December 12 from 1-4 p.m. ET.
