PHTA UPDATES
PHTA is pleased to announce that Vice President of Partnerships & Development Rowdy Gaines and the Step Into Swim program have been awarded the 2022 President’s Award by the National Drowning Prevention Alliance (NDPA). NDPA President Blake Collingsworth presented the award on Monday during the organization’s National Water Safety Conference, held in Fort Worth, TX.
   House Bill 772, which would adopt the APSP-14 Standard (2019 edition) statewide in Maryland, was passed by the state legislature and sent to Governor Larry Hogan’s desk for final signature. HB 772 was an administration bill, and Governor Hogan is expected to sign the legislation into law. House Bill 303, which would adopt the ISPSC statewide in Maryland, was passed out of the legislature on Monday, which was the last day of the 2022 legislative session. The Maryland General Assembly meets for 90 calendar days each legislative session and adjourns at midnight on the 90th day. PHTA GR and PHTA Maryland lobbyist Grason Wiggins worked furiously this past week and over the weekend to ensure passage of HB 303. The legislature passed HB 303 at 8:53pm on the 90th day.

We're hearing from more and more PHTA members that drought is a top concern – and with that, the potential for water-use restrictions and how that can impact the pool, spa, and hot tub industry. PHTA is now in the process of expanding the Let's Pool Together campaign to cover regions beyond California, and we will keep our members updated as new resources are added. PHTA Codes staff submitted a letter of support to New York state legislators on proposed legislation that would affirm the use of hot tub safety covers in order to comply with the state's barrier requirements.
