GENESIS® E211: Fluid Hydraulics for Pools and Spas is a required course for the new Certified Advanced Pool Builder (Advanced CBP) certification, and it is being offered next month at PSP/Deck Expo. As a special promotion, if you register for E211 by this Friday, October 22, we will waive the Advanced CBP exam fee (a $250 value!). E211 is $1,890 for PHTA Members and $2,090 for non-members. On November 16 at 5 p.m., join the WAVE Young Professionals Network for a reception at Gilley's Dallas, part of PSP/Deck Expo. To become a Certified Master Builder and Design Professional, one of the required courses is C410: Advanced Pool Construction. We are offering this course VIRTUALLY two more times this year! You can register for October 26 & 28 or November 30 & December 2.

STANDARDS AND CODES
PHTA Codes staff and members participated in the first meeting of the ACI 322 Standards Committee on Monday, October 18. ACI 322 will be a new pool-specific American Concrete Institute standard. Committee members include Nicholas Capezza, PHTA Senior Manager of Codes & External Standards; Philip Cowles of the C.T. Brannon Corporation; Jonathan Dongell of Pebble Technologies; and Craig Nicholson of Anderson Poolworks.
ADVOCACY
Earlier this year, the City of Austin, Texas, adopted the 2018 International Swimming Pool & Spa Code (ISPSC). Part of this adoption changed Austin’s inspection platform and meant that pool builders would now be responsible for finding a third party to complete certain inspections. This put an added burden on builders, and many were considering not taking jobs in Austin anymore.
PHTA GR and ICC GR attended the annual Tawes Crab and Clam Bake, a major Maryland political event. It was a very productive day for PHTA and the ICC, spending valuable time with Maryland legislators to continue advocacy for the adoption of the ISPSC and APSP-14 standards in 2022. They also met with Senator Cory McCray, who is sponsoring the ISPSC adoption bill in 2022. Jason Davidson, PHTA Director of Government Relations and Maryland native, was tasked to teach ICC Vice President of Government Relations Justin Wiley on how to deshell and eat a Maryland crab.
