Olympian Rowdy Gaines, PHTA Vice President of Partnerships & Development, participated in a radio tour last week for Healthy Pools Week. Rowdy spoke to 21 radio stations in large, mid-size, and smaller markets across the country over a 4-hour span. He discussed public pools reopening for the summer, a recent Healthy Pools survey about pools and COVID-19, and what swimmers can do to stay safe at the pool. Episode 2 of our Step Into Swim podcast is here! Franceen Gonzales is the Chief Experience Officer at Whitewater West Industries, as well as the PHTA Board Chair. Franceen has over 30 years in amusement park, water park, hotel, and family entertainment management. She's held positions on the board of directors for various groups, including International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions, World Waterpark Association, and ASTM International, to name a few. Franceen joins Step Into Swim to chat about how she became immersed in the aquatic life at an early age, which wasn't her original plan.

EDUCATION AND EVENTS
Pool design and pool construction go hand-in-hand. In D231: Color Theory and Its Application, students will come away with an understanding of color and how choosing the right colors for a pool can make or break the design concept. Students will also discuss color psychology, how color affects the viewer, and influences of color and texture on purchasing decisions. Class starts June 8 with instructor Feras Irikat. Three GENESIS® courses have recently been added to our on-demand offerings: GENESIS® C215: What's New with Tile: Working with Large Format Tile expert Greg Andrews will discuss installation challenges unique to large format tiles and adapt your installation system to overcome long-term complications. GENESIS® E111: Introduction to Pool Hydraulics This program provides an overview of the design and engineering process as well as a good list of best practices for everything from layout to assembly to pressure testing. GENESIS® E151: Do's and Don'ts of Engineering This program breaks down the engineering portions of a project with a checklist detailed from years of in-the-field experience. He first joined the National Spa & Pool Institute in 1984 and has followed the evolution from APSP to PHTA today. Dan decided to become a member "to take advantage of their educational offerings, to work with others in the association, to educate politicians and building officials regarding our codes and standards, improving local building codes, and to associate with other members, sharing ideas."
ADVOCACY
The PHTA Government Relations team continues to press on, monitoring state and local legislation as well as rulemaking nationwide. With 48 state legislatures meeting this week, the GR team is currently advocating in 20 states around the country, lobbying for legislation and rulemaking that benefits PHTA and its members. Priority issues surround the adoption of the International Swimming Pool & Spa Code (ISPSC), Portable Electric Spa Energy Efficiency via adoption of the APSP-14 Standard, Licensing/Certification/Training, Pool & Hot Tub Safety and Education, Prop 65 in California, as well as other areas.
