ADVOCACY

PHTA has been closely monitoring legislation at the state and federal levels that may impact COVID liability exposure for your business. A majority of these bills are being considered to protect businesses, health care providers, schools, and government entities from lawsuits brought as a result of the pandemic. Typically, state legislation requires gross negligence on the part of the defendant for a lawsuit to move forward. The length of time a lawsuit can be initiated is also included in many state bills. A list of pending and enacted legislation can be found here.

Through PHTA’s work with the Department of Energy, effective July 19, 2021, one national energy efficiency standard for dedicated purpose pool pumps will be law of the land, eliminating the patchwork of regulations that currently exist across the country. PHTA and its members are now advocating for a similar regulation for dedicated purpose pool pump motors. Providing one national energy efficiency standard for manufacturers to comply with also benefits installers and consumers by providing more affordable energy-efficient pump and motor choices.

PHTA has compiled additonal information on the DPPP rule, including an FAQ and a fact sheet about the impact on the commercial pool market.

To help our members prepare for the DOE Dedicated Purpose Pool Pump Rule, PHTA is offering an on-demand course on the topic. Attendees of this course will review information on the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) pool pump regulations and how to address this issue with their customers effectively. This course will:

1) Explain U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) pool pump regulations
2) Identify the types of pool pump designs that will be impacted by the new regulation
3) Discuss product ratings, ENERGY STAR, and how it affects other national and state standards
4) Communicate the benefits of energy-efficient pool pumps and how to educate peers and customers

How to Prepare for Federal Pool Pump Regulations is now available for purchase on the PHTA Online Store.
