Chlorine Comments

Print this Article | Send to Colleague

In our continued efforts to preserve important pool and spa sanitizers, PHTA submitted comments to the U.S. EPA jointly with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, CBC, and numerous other associations asking that the agency significantly modify a proposed rule that could result in significant disruptions to the chlorine supply chain.

The EPA’s proposed rule would ban the use of asbestos diaphragms, which are used in production of about 30% of the nation’s chlorine. The proposed rule would take effect two years after the rule is finalized, which is not enough time to re-tool chemical manufacturing plants and build up chlorine supply. We will continue to engage on this issue for our members, in coordination with allied associations.
