Everything from online travel arrangements, banking and grocery shopping had already shifted away from the phone, and while we continued to accept locate requests by fax and phone, the ClickBeforeYouDig service was available and active 24-7-365. At the time, promoting the online process was considered more a matter of convenience but it was — and is — much more than that.

We talk a lot about different aspects of damage prevention. Well actually, we write a lot about them. We create booklets and textbooks, and project binders, and lots and lots of PowerPoint slides. We give presentations and workshops, and yes there are some excellent videos. For the first time in Canada, we’re just “talking” about damage prevention. Talking in the format of a podcast.

 

 

  
The Alberta Common Ground Alliance Education and Awareness Committee, now part of the Alberta One-Call/Where’s the Line? trio, has been busy clarifying its role in the unification. New Terms of Reference have been drafted and broad goals and objectives set as the "public education arm" of the new organization.

Alberta One-Call Corporation, now administering the services of the former Alberta Common Ground Alliance, in collaboration with the Canadian Association of Pipeline and Utility Locating Contractors, invited subject matter experts to an online Summit April 13, 2021 to engage in a Blue Sky discussion on locating and marking in Alberta.
As we gaze into the distance, squinting against the bright April sunlight to try and discern what lies ahead, we steel ourselves against the challenges that are rapidly approaching. A feeling of mixed fear and eager hope washes over us, an electric jolt of anxious expectation and nervous energy. May approaches quickly, and April offers us but just a small taste of what lies ahead.
 
Alberta One Call offers Enhanced Ticket Services!
PelicanCorp Canada®
Alberta One Call is offering an Enhanced Ticket Service to its members. In a partnership with PelicanCorp this service helps reduce time and costs associated with responding to incoming requests for locates. The incoming requests are screened, evaluated and forwarded automatically. This enhanced process can automatically warn of excavations around critical infrastructure and send out notices on permit requirements or special environmental conditions.

Since Alberta One-Call Corporation began providing services, there’s been a misconception that the crews locating and marking buried utilities across Alberta are our employees. They’re not. Along with that misconception, there is also the belief that you have to pay for locating and marking buried facilities on your property after you’ve made a locate request to AOC. That’s also incorrect.
