Prairie Podcast by Alberta One-Call

“Let’s talk about damage prevention, excavation safety, and legislative matters to ensure contractors and neighbours can all do their work safely. Safety is always a good conversation.”

That’s the underlying notion behind Alberta One-Call’s “Prairie Podcast” and it’s catching on.

As AOC was planning its 2021 advertising campaign, our contractor asked “What about podcasts?”

“What about them?” I replied.

That was about the extent of my knowledge into this growing communications medium. I’m more of a radio guy and while I certainly enjoy listening to music, and will get a kick listening to my son’s voice on his midday show in Calgary for as long as I live, I’ve become a talk-radio listener over the years – mostly on long drives. And in that light, podcasts appealing to my tastes are a lot easier to find than scrolling up and down the radio dial for a topic.

We knew the audience for our foray into the world of podcasts would be limited – but there was still an audience – and that was good enough for me. “Let’s do it,” I said.

We’ve now recorded 7 episodes and have two more lined up. I talk to my guests about a variety of things from our provincial damage prevention legislation efforts and overhead powerline safety to Official Keeper of the Cup, Jeff McWhinney bridging awareness by virtue of the Grey Cup; and the reach will only get broader as we continue along this journey.

So far, Prairie Podcast episodes have been downloaded over 300 times, with the most recent episode, “I knew it was there – I just didn’t see it” with Glen “Cookie” Cook, downloaded over 80 times.

If you’re interested in safety – personal, work or just curious to learn more – check out the Prairie Podcast episodes and keep coming back for more. And, if you have an idea for a future podcast, send an email to info@albertaonecall.com with “Podcast” in the subject line.
