As the ground thaws and projects spring to life across Alberta, we at Utility Safety Partners want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the thousands of homeowners who took the responsible step of submitting a locate request as the most critical part of their ground disturbance project.
Whether you were planting trees, installing a fence, or upgrading your backyard, your decision to contact Utility Safety Partners and submit a locate request before breaking ground helped keep our communities safe. Every year, underground utility lines — including gas, water, electrical, and telecom — are accidentally struck during digging activities. These incidents can lead to service disruptions, costly repairs, and serious injuries.
By submitting a locate request before starting your digging project, you initiated a procedural chain that helped prevent those hazards. And you’re not alone — in May alone, we received tens of thousands of locate requests from across the province. It’s clear: Albertans understand the value of safety.
We also want to recognize the growing ClickBeforeYouDig awareness around underground infrastructure safety. Education campaigns, local partnerships, this eNewsletter, our Ambassadors and word-of-mouth have all played a role in encouraging safer digging practices — and homeowners like you are leading that charge.
So, from everyone at Utility Safety Partners: thank you for making safety your priority. Alberta is growing, and with your continued vigilance, we can ensure that growth happens without putting lives or infrastructure at risk.
Let’s keep building safely, together.
