Coming Soon: Positive Response

Alberta One-Call (AOC) is excited to introduce Positive Response in spring 2021. Positive Response allows facility owners and locators to record the status of a locate in the Before You Dig Partners (BYDP) ticket creation system. This record of locate status closes the communication loop between locators and excavators and reduces the risk of miscommunication about the presence of underground facilities in the work area; thereby reducing the occurrence of facility damage.

Excavators will be able to log into the Positive Response Portal to view their tickets and see which facilities have been located and which locates are not yet complete. This will allow easy identification of outstanding locates and allow excavators to send no response reminders directly to facility owners who have not responded after the minimum notice period has passed. The ticket requestor will receive an email once all notified facility owners have provided Positive Response for a ticket; however, individual Positive Response statuses can be viewed at any time.

Locators will be able to submit Positive Responses by logging into the BYDP system or through an API connection with their ticket management software. Once a Positive Response status has been submitted, the status is visible to the excavator and a no response reminder can no longer be sent for that ticket. AOC will be reaching out to facility owners and locators in March 2021 to begin testing.

The addition of Positive Response is an important improvement to the damage prevention process. Unclear communication can lead to facility damages and put worker safety at risk. The Positive Response system provides a tool for both excavators and locators alike to confirm which locates are complete.

Excavators can expect to see Positive Response statuses this spring once testing is complete.
