ALM News

ALM received very sad news last week from MIP about one of our friends, Dave Flattem. We will miss Dave tremendously. Below is the message from MIP.

It is with deep sadness that MIP reports the sudden passing of one of its colleagues, Dave Flattem. Dave’s love for the outdoors was surpassed only by his love for his family. Simply stated, Dave was a remarkable human being and everyone at MIP is better for having known him. His family remains forever in our prayers.

To read the full obituary and leave a message for the family, visit Dave's memorial page at the Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home below.

It's not too late to attend IMPACT virtually, Nov. 2-4! Because we're hybrid this year, you can participate where you are, on your schedule, without missing out! All you need is an internet connection, ideas, and enthusiasm! If you can't view sessions live due to other responsibilities, or you are torn between concurrent sessions, it's no problem. All sessions will be recorded and available to all paid attendees after the conference to watch when time allows. Also, the first 50 virtual attendees are guaranteed a goody bag with games, yummy treats, and fun delivered directly to you!

Updated education sessions for IMPACT are now available, with a variety of timely topics, including a series of sessions focused on reusable isolation gowns, how to mitigate shortages, and how to improve your workflow.

But first, we start with Insights from 2020... Imagine a world where negotiating could be done while knowing all of the outcomes of each possible decision. Knowing the requisite terms of the other parties. Knowing what factors are non-essential. During this session, you'll gain perspective of a value analysis professional, a laundry manager, a hospital administrator, a linen manager, and a laundry processor on what they value versus what they can live without, for better informed decision making.

To give you a synopsis of every impactful (pun intended) session would simply exhaust your inbox, but be assured, IMPACT finishes strong as we gaze into the future with the last general session, Crystal Ball: The Post COVID Textile Industry. Forget trying to figure out what things will be like in 5, 10, or 20 years, what we all want to know right now is what things will be like post-COVID. Hear from some of the industry’s great minds with their fact-based projections on where we are now and where we are going as an industry.

You don't want to miss out on the industry's best option for education in this crazy year!

Don't miss the next ALM webinar, How to Go From Being "The Source" to "The Resource," on Thursday, October 15. Learn how to be the first one your customer turns to for help resolving issues. Join Robin Holmes, CLLM, and Eva Granado, RLLD, CLLM, at 2 p.m. ET, and keep in mind, you are allowed an unlimited number of participants at your location for the same low price!

Industry News

If you missed the summer issue of fresh Magazine, the cover article, Gowns Worth Wearing a Hundred Times Over, focused on the renewed interest in reusable gowns. With PPE alarmingly scarce at the height of the COVID-19 crisis this spring, end users became acutely aware of the value of reusable isolation gowns and an increased interest arose from hospitals, medical centers, and laundries.

This message was recently reiterated by MIP's François Pilon in his article posted on National Newswatch, COVID-19 a Wakeup Call on Single-use PPE

"Frontline COVID-19 health care staff must change their gear two or three times a shift. As the pandemic progressed, the demand for clean equipment was soon untenable. We saw pricing spikes, rationing and improvisation of homemade equipment," said Pilon. "During COVID-19, after masks, isolation gowns have been the second most used item by health care professionals and is the product with the best range of reusable options and measurable outcomes. Gowns are readily available that can be reused up to 75 times and are sterilized with regularly available hospital laundry services."

To learn more about reusable gowns, including the levels of protection and how to effectively process them, be sure to register for IMPACT, Nov. 2-4. This year's educational conference will host a slew of timely topics, and all sessions will be streamed live to our virtual attendees, with the recordings made available later to all attendees.

Numerous fraud schemes targeting the unemployment insurance programs of various state workforce agencies across the U.S. are being investigated. Fraudsters are using the stolen identities of U.S. citizens to open accounts and file fraudulent claims for benefits, exploiting the expanded benefits due to COVID-19.

The U.S. Department of Justice National Unemployment Insurance Task Force has released a Consumer Protection Guide to help raise awareness about ways to protect yourself from fraud. It is linked below.

We have all dealt with the uncertainty of the pandemic for so long, that our mental health may be suffering. Have you found yourself more forgetful or quicker to anger? Feeling depressed or exhausted? Maybe you've found yourself sucked into a conspiracy theory when you have never been the type to listen to outlandish ideas. All of this could be due to dealing with so much uncertainty, and you're not alone!

We've pulled together a list of articles that may benefit your understanding of how to better cope with the ongoing effects of COVID-19 in yourself, as well as in your staff.

We are thrilled to announce the latest addition to the MIP family as a member of our U.S. sales team: Chris Healey.

Chris Healey will be joining MIP as a sales consultant covering the great state of Texas and surrounding states. Chris is an industry veteran, first spending time on the textile side as a salesman and a sales trainer, and most recently on the textile processing equipment side.

Chris lives in League City, Texas, with his lovely family, where their three dogs allow them to share their home. While Chris is an avid outdoorsman and muscle car aficionado, his real passion, when not at work, is devoting his time to volunteer work locally and abroad.
