American Laundry News recently featured information presented in ALM's September webinar, "The Textile Trap." Textile suppliers are constantly coming out with different fabrics with new construction and properties, but how is a laundry and linen service supposed to choose the right product for its customers and operation? Duane Houvener, national manager of value-added solutions for reusable textile solutions provider American Dawn, discussed just that during the webinar and outlines it in the feature available on the American Laundry News website.

Learn more about Textile Care Services at the spring 2020 Laundry & Linen College, April 20-24, 2020, in Richmond, Kentucky. The Laundry & Linen College is the premier resource for laundry training and education. For over 30 years, the college has provided training in laundry processing and linen distribution and utilization for individuals in the U.S. and abroad. This program is recognized nationally for developing skilled, informed, and accomplished laundry professionals.

The Laundry & Linen College uses interactive, hands-on, class projects in small groups. Students are able to take immediate action in their facilities after the college. Even experienced laundry personnel learn new approaches! Gain lifetime connections with fellow attendees/students. Each class is aided by a course facilitator who has been through the program and is currently working in the field — practical everyday experience meets classroom instructors for the benefit of those attending.

Mark you calendars for TCATA'S 2020 Annual Management & Educational Conference April 29 - May 2 at The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa. Help us celebrate our 100th Anniversary!

The International Association for Healthcare Textile Management (IAHTM) has named Christy Carper (left) executive director, effective January 9. Carper replaces Becky Miller (right), who has served in the role for five years and who is voluntarily stepping down from the position due to family circumstances requiring more of her time and attention.

Carper is no stranger to IAHTM, having most recently served on the on-site team that managed and produced the organization's 2019 Annual Meeting and Education Conference, which was held in September in Scottsdale, Ariz. Her management experience covers a broad range of positions and businesses, including the satellite and television industry, veterinary medicine, and travel and hospitality.

While Miller is stepping down from her position as executive director, she will remain with IAHTM indeterminately in a consulting role, where she will provide support to upcoming programs including Texcare International (June 19-28) and the 2020 IAHTM Annual Meeting and Education Conference (Sept. 26-29).

IAHTM is a nonprofit membership organization for healthcare laundry cooperatives that provides senior-level textile managers with resources and support to maximize their laundries' efficiencies and control costs without compromising quality or patient focus.

Carper can be reached via email, ccarper@iahtm.com.

Campbell Dodson, co-founder of Lavo Solutions, provided an expert insight article for Vital Threads concerning three separate chemical mixing incidents occurring in a two-week span in November.

The incidents occurred in two restaurants and a nursing home. In each case, staff improperly mixed cleaners, causing evacuations of the locations and sadly, in one instance, the death of an employee. According to reports, the incompatible cleaners produced toxic gases which created hazardous conditions and affected dozens of employees. Click "Learn More" below to read the full article.

Daniel’s Textile Rental of Cincinnati has installed a new computerized chemical system that uses six chemicals in different amounts for different loads while calculating poundage, cycles and more. It is made by Streets in Chicago and customizes loads by type of textile as well as giving management a helpful dashboard to control costs though internet access.

Daniel's Textile Rental also added two new laundry techs:  Brianna Moore and Karly Kotz for current increased volume. Pictured left to right is Beth Frey, laundry plant supervisor; Karly Kotz and Brianna Moore, laundry technicians; and Mark Heekin, general manager, in front of the new chemical system. Daniel's Textile Rental plans to double their space in March of 2020 and further invest in equipment and people.
